Creamy Fruit Salad with Honey Yogurt Lime Dressing

This creamy fruit salad with honey lime yogurt dressing is a perfect healthy summertime snack. It’s not packed with added sugars and downright unhealthy ingredients. I want to keep my family healthy enough to run around in the sun all day, so I’ve created this fresh kid friendly fruit salad that’s always a huge hit!

“I didn’t have any blueberries so I used pineapple but it was still AMAZING. I loooove the fruit dressing! I will be making this again and again this summer! Thank you for sharing your recipe! ~Tameka W

Creamy Fruit Salad

This creamy fruit salad recipe is really easy to whip together – you might even be able to task the kids with making it while you’re finishing up work for the day or cooking dinner. My son looooves this fruit salad and he doesn’t even like yogurt.

In addition to being easy to combine all the ingredients in a big bowl, this recipe isn’t super technical. If you’re having the kids make it and they don’t get all the measurements perfectly, that’s totally OK! It’s likely to come out perfect and delicious, however their little hands make it. They’ll be really proud of themselves that they were able to help in a huge way!

Use Greek yogurt for the fruit salad dressing

Before you start making your salad, I have a few things to consider:

In order to make the fruit salad the perfect texture, I recommend using unsweetened Greek yogurt (don’t worry we’re going to dress it up later on) over regular yogurt because it has a delightful thickness, creaminess, and no added sugar. Greek yogurt also has so many fantastic health benefits and keeps bellies feeling full. That means more energy for activities and a guilt-free treat!

Why this recipe works

Kid friendly: My kids love this fruit salad. And guess what? They don’t even like yogurt. I even tested it on my nieces and they adore it too! Hopefully your kids will love it too!

Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt is wonderful in fruit salad plus it’s pretty healthy

Cheap: You can whip up a healthier snack or dessert and it won’t cost you much.

Quick and easy: You’ll be done prepping this recipe in no time at all!

No sugar added: If you are on a special diet and looking for healthier snacks. This creamy fruit salad is perfect for you. Plus you can easily customize this recipe to your taste preference.

IT’S DELICIOUS: OMG! Fruits with creamy sweet yogurt is so GOOD!

Use your favorite, FRESH fruit

There’s just nothing like a big bowl of fresh, colorful and crisp fruit to really say, “it’s summertime!” This fruit salad will go great with pretty much any fruit you can dream of putting in here.

However, this recipe is truly best when made with mandarin oranges, apples, grapes, blueberries, and diced strawberries. I think all of the flavors combined with the honey yogurt lime dressing are just perfection.  Of course, it’s adaptable for preferences or allergies!

So, choose whatever you’d like, just don’t choose frozen. If you put frozen fruit in your fruit salad, not only do you miss out on those fresh, summer flavors but you’ll end up with a dreadfully soggy salad once the fruits thaw.

HOW TO MAKE CREAMY FRUIT SALAD

Equipment you’ll need:

  • A small bowl
  • A large bowl or serving dish
  • A small spoon or whisk
  • A large serving spoon

Ingredients: FYI, you’ll need at least 5 cups of fruit. Use any fruits you have. Sometimes we only have grapes and it’s still delicious!

  • apples
  • Greek yogurt
  • Mandarins or tangerines
  • blueberries
  • seedless red grapes
  • strawberries
  • honey
  • lime zest
  • lime juice

  1. Make the Greek yogurt dressing – to a small bowl add the unsweetened Greek yogurt, honey, lemon zest and freshly squeezed lime juice. Whisk until smooth and creamy. Set to the side. To customize this creamy fruit salad dressing, *See notes BELOW in the recipe.
  2. Add your chopped bite-sized pieces to a bowl or serving dish. Squeeze a bit of lime juice over the apples. This will prevent them from turning brown. FYi, the bowls are different below because I ended up switching for demostration purposes. Plus the blue blow looks better! 😉fruit salad
  3. Pour the fruit salad dressing over the fruit and use a large serving spoon to mix everything around until all of the fruit is evenly coated and creamy. Taste, and if you like it creamier add more yogurt.
  4. Serve the fruit salad right away. If you’re making the salad ahead of time, I recommend adding the mandarin oranges right before you serve. Citrus fruits tend to release a lot of juices and you don’t want to end up with a soggy fruit salad. See more tips about this below!

Tips to make creamy fruit salad

  • Use fresh fruits only. I’ve made this recipe a bunch of times. I used canned mandarins once and that was a flop! The mandarins broke apart, they were soggy and they didn’t taste good. I also used frozen strawberries. Don’t use frozen fruits either or it may just get way too soggy. See the picture below for proof!  This picture of creamy fruit salad an example of why you don't use canned or frozen fruit. A hot soggy mess!
  • Use about 5 cups of fruit. Use your favorite fruits. If you don’t have 5 cups of fruits, you can still make it just make less fruit dressing. If you have only grapes then use them. I actually love a grape only fruit salad.
  • Be aware of the high water content in some fruit. For example, mandarins and strawberries have a high water contents. So if you are making this fruit salad in advance, chop up them up when you are ready to serve the salad.  HERE is a list of fruit with high water content.
  • I use unsweetened fruit yogurt to make my creamy fruit salad because I like to adjust the flavors to my preference, plus I can use it in my other non snack/dessert recipes that calls for yogurt.
  • Zest your limes first then juice them. If you juice your lime first then try to zest it, you’re going to have a hard time zesting it.
  • This creamy fruit salad can be easily customized. As I mentioned earlier, if you like your salad a bit more creamier then add more yogurt. Less sweet, add less honey. Just remember, if you do add a lot more yogurt, you may need to add more honey.

To make in advance

Some people just add everything to a bowl and refrigerate their fruit salad. That’s fine and all, but if you are using a high water content fruit (I linked a list of watery fruit above) you will lose all creamy factors. Instead, you’ll be left with a soggy fruit salad. It’s best to make this fruit salad and serve right away, plus it’s soquick and easy to make.

However, if you really want to make it in advance here’s what you need to do:

  • Make the fruit salad dressing. Put it into a container with a tight lid. Refrigerate for later.
  • Next, chop up the fruit and place each fruit in its own container with a tight fitted lid. Chill in the fridge. When you’re ready to serve, combine the fruit with the fruit dressing.
