This moist cream cheese banana bread is just so easy  to make. It reminds me of the comforting treats I grew up eating.  This recipe calls for simple pantry ingredients that you probably already have on hand.

It’s Friday!  I hope you have a great weekend! This year is going so fast. I cannot believe it’s almost over. My New Year’s resolution every year for the past 4 years is to lose about 10-15 lbs. Luckily I’ve been able to maintain my weight each year.  I am going to try again this year….it’s so hard trying to lose weight. I know I need to bite the bullet and just do it. We shall see what happens and I will definitely keep you updated! Do you have any New Year’s  resolutions? I’d love to hear about them.

Did you know that I love to bake? I actually really really love it. Sometimes I think I love it more than cooking. I love them both but baking holds a special place near my heart. I’ve been baking for the past almost 5 years.

I don’t post most of my recipes because it’s something I do for fun. Some of my recipes have been huge failures and some have been a success.  I should also mention that I really, like REALLY love sweets. Mostly simple vintage and classic desserts, so it’s only right that I make them myself plus fall is baking season.  I’m happy to be able to share some treats with you before the year is over.

Today I want to share some of those “just because” recipes with you. Most of my recipes I post here on my blog consist of foods I’ll always cook for my family, basically family favorites. I wouldn’t blog about a recipe just  because everyone one else is blogging about it. Yes, there will be popular recipes like this cream cheese banana bread that everyone on the internet  has raved about. It’s true though, cream cheese banana bread is just so good!

I will make this bread until I am sick and tired of it, although I don’t think I will ever get tired of banana bread. If you read my blog, you already know that I love blueberry corn muffins but I also love  banana bread and a ton of other simple comforting treats. Shall we get on with this banana bread recipe. I think so!

Oh sorry, real quick, before I forget, next week I will be sharing my recipe for mini sweet potato galettes. Make sure you look out for that post. I just love small baked goods! They are so adorable. I think I love it more than my  southern sweet potato pie.

HOW TO MAKE CREAM CHEESE BANANA BREAD

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mist a 9×5 inch loaf pan with nonsticking spray.
In a large bowl add all of the bread batter ingredients (do not add the cream cheese filling yet). Mix until just incorporated making sure there are no flour spots but do not over mix or you will have tough bread. Spread half of the mixture into a 9×5 loaf pan.

Cream cheese center: In a medium bowl whip or with your hand mixer beat the egg, cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Spread on top of the bread mixture.

Spread the rest of the banana bread batter on top of the cream cheese mixture. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted. Feel free to add a half a cup of walnuts if you like. Fold the walnuts into the mixture. Cover the loaf with foil if it’s browning too fast. How is easy this bread!

Banana bread and cream cheese are a perfect match! This would be hard for me to stop eating, it’s like cheesecake is baked inside the banana bread. Yummers!

Benne or sesame seeds  were brought to America by West African slaves. They were commonly used to enhance the flavors of foods or used as a thickening agent.  African slaves believed the seeds to be good luck. Benne wafers are a staple dessert for many people in South Carolina and they are often served during Kwanzaa as well. Melt in your mouth, crisp, chewy, nutty and caramelized benne or sesame wafer/cookies are perfect for the holidays. For a more traditional type cookie, leave them plain or make them festive by drizzling them with chocolate sauce. Both ways are equally delicious.
